Presence

Regional hub for Asia-Pacific at Raffles Quay Pavilion, Singapore, opened in 2022. Thirteen people work there under Mei-Lin Ostrowski-Tanaka, Head of Region, Asia-Pacific; Ottoline Baskerville-Nakamura, Head of Technology and Ethics, is based in the office.

Why this domicile

  • Singapore has a fund management and dealing licence regime built for institutional and accredited business, with a single regulator for banking, capital markets and insurance.
  • The city sits within seven flight hours of Tokyo, Sydney, Mumbai and Dubai, which makes it the natural hub for a region that stretches from Japan to Australia.
  • A deep market of custodians, administrators and technology vendors supports the Quantitative Strategies and Information & Data divisions.
  • Singapore's data-governance framework and its rules on model use match the Ethical Technology Charter closely enough that the Head of Technology and Ethics chose to base the function here.

Two divisions run substantial operations from Singapore. Quantitative Strategies executes its Asian trading here under the Model Risk Management policy, with research support from the Sydney team. Information & Data runs its regional data operations from the same floor and holds two of the five Asia-Pacific positions, a data analytics business and an information-infrastructure business, the two in the region that are not Japanese manufacturers. Systems built in Singapore are the first tested against the Charter's principle of proportionate automation.

Four of the 61 family relationships are covered and booked from Singapore, the only Asia-Pacific office that books private wealth. Client securities are held with Serangoon Depositary, the regional custodian since 2022, across eight Asian markets. Japanese positions originated in Tokyo are held through the Singapore entity or George Town, and Hong Kong transactions are pre-cleared by the Singapore compliance team. Programme Latitude assigns 2027 to the Asia-Pacific build-out, which adds Quantitative Strategies and Private Wealth capacity here.

Regulatory approach

IGUAKO Capital Asia Pte. Ltd. holds a capital markets services licence from the national financial regulator for fund management and dealing in capital markets products, restricted to institutional and accredited investors. It is also an exempt financial adviser for the advice incidental to those activities. The licence excludes retail business. The entity maintains base capital and risk-based capital above the minima for its licence class, files quarterly and annual returns, submits audited accounts within the statutory period, and undergoes an annual independent compliance review. Its directors and representatives are notified to the regulator, and its chief executive is resident in Singapore. The resident compliance team serves the Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan entities and reports to the Group Head of Compliance.
