Fondo Austral de Desarrollo

Fondo Austral de Desarrollo is a regional development finance institution that co-lends alongside IGUAKO on agri-science and aquaculture projects in Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. The relationship began in 2025 with the Montevideo representative desk. Fondo Austral has committed US$22 million across three co-financed projects, with IGUAKO acting as arranger and senior lender.

The relationship

Development finance brings longer tenor and concessional pricing to projects that commercial lenders find too slow. IGUAKO structures the senior tranche, the Fondo takes a subordinated position, and the sponsor gets a blended cost of capital that makes a ten-year aquaculture build viable. The Fondo's welfare and environmental conditions are aligned with the group's Animal and Biological Welfare in Investment policy.
