Jersey.

St Helier is the trust office of the Private Wealth & UHNW division. It opened in 2023 to give founder families a jurisdiction with a settled body of trust law, a professional trustee market and courts that hear trust disputes regularly. Four of the 61 family relationships are covered from the island, which with the ten covered from Zürich makes the fourteen European families. US$22 million of the client portfolio under stewardship is attributed to Jersey.

Presence

Eight people at Level 3, Esplanade Chambers, St Helier, under Rosalind Vautier-Ibekwe, Head of Office. The office opened in 2023.

Why this domicile

  • A body of trust law and case law deep enough that a settlor can be told, with confidence, how a question would be decided.
  • A professional trustee market that lets the firm appoint an independent trustee and keep the oversight to itself.
  • A jurisdiction separate from the country of the operating business, which is what a family selling that business usually asks for.
  • An hour from London and a short flight from Zürich, so a trustee meeting and a portfolio review can happen in the same week.

Nineteen trusts and eleven island holding companies were administered at 30 June 2026. Corbière Trust Company acts as trustee, and the office provides oversight rather than duplication: it reconciles the quarterly trustee reporting to the investment statements produced in Zürich, tests the file of each structure once a year and raises what it finds with the trustee and with the family in the same letter.

The structures are built for succession and are documented to survive scrutiny. Every trust has a named settlor, named beneficiaries or a defined class, and a purpose recorded under the Know Your Client policy at the time the trust was settled, not reconstructed afterwards. Where a family asks that a distribution be decided by a person rather than by a model or a formula, the office provides that person, which is the seventh principle of the Ethical Technology Charter applied to a trust.

The families served here mostly realised their wealth in animal-health and agri-science businesses in Oceania and Africa, and they want the proceeds held apart from the operating company and its jurisdiction. That is the whole of the mandate: the office originates nothing, advises on no investment and holds no client money. It grows with the Private Wealth division rather than through any phase of Programme Latitude.

Regulatory approach

IGUAKO Trust Company (Jersey) Limited is registered to carry on trust company business under the regulatory law of this island and is supervised by the local financial services regulator against the codes of practice that apply to that business. Its principal persons and key persons are notified and assessed before appointment, it maintains the professional indemnity cover the codes require, and it files an annual return and audited accounts. It carries on no investment business and no fund services business; where a family wants an investment mandate, the mandate is documented with the Nassau booking centre and the coverage team in Zürich, and this office is the trustee side of that arrangement only. Beneficial ownership of every island company is filed on the central register and kept current.
